OBITUARY: Donald “Tono” Gallegos

d. March 16, 2025

Donald “Tono” Gallegos, 65, a resident of Questa, NM passed away unexpectedly on March 16, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents Crisiforo and Eva R. Gallegos; brothers, Lawrence Gallegos and Thomas “Mote” Gallegos; sister-in-law Sharon Gallegos; nieces Denise Gallegos and Christa Gallegos; and nephew Eddie Gallegos.


Tono was a skilled machinist who worked in many different settings. His favorite being the time that he spent as a chief engineer on fishing boats in Alaska. He really enjoyed being outdoors riding his dirt bike and fishing. He also enjoyed working on cars and rebuilding engines.


He lived a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and adventure. He was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle whose presence brought strength, faith and countless cherished stories to everyone who knew him.
Tono is survived by his daughter Tanya Gallegos (Reo); granddaughter Betty; stepdaughter Stephanie Chavez, stepson Carlos Manzanares; brothers Robert Gallegos (Evelyn) and David Gallegos; sister Bernadette Weldon (Warren); sister-in-law Alice Gallegos; many nieces, nephews and friends.


Rosary was recited on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 6pm at St. Anthony’s Catholic church in Questa. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 10:00am, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with burial following at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery in Cerro, NM.


Pallbearers serving the family are Carlos Manzanares, Daniel Gallegos, Alayna Gallegos, Mark Gallegos, Domingo Gallegos, Jason Gallegos and Floyd Rael.
