Questa High School athletes have kicked off their fall sports season with decisive performances on the field and the court.
The Wildcats football team opened with a dominant win over Navajo Pine, rolling to a 60-0 victory under the mercy rule Saturday, Aug. 23. This year’s team is coached by head coach Dwayne Ortega and assistant coaches Justin Martinez, Mark Ortega and Ernie Griego. The team’s roster is compromised of Senior Adam Gordon, Sophomore Urijah Griego, Sophomore Lukas Cisneros, Sophomore Remington Smith, Sophomore Hecter Hernandez, Sophomore Esekiel Henderson, Junior Matt Vigil, Sophomore Alex Ortega, Freshman Bo Ortega, Freshman Izyk Gallegos, Senior Noah Rael, 8th grader Jesus Juarez, Junior Juan ‘Boomer’ Cisneros, Junior Jose Cisneros, 8th grader Patrick Cardenas, Freshman Joel Santisteva, Junior Diego Ortega, Junior Noah Mandonado, Senior Joaquin Martinez, Junior Izziah Gonzales, 8th grader Mathias Mandonado, and Sophomore Micah Gonzales.
On the volleyball court, Questa Volleyball is also showing early strength. After dropping their opener to Cuba 0-3 on Aug. 17, the Lady Wildcats bounced back, sweeping Menaul 3-0 on Aug. 21 and shutting out Dulce 3-0 on Aug. 26. This year’s team is coached by head coach Michelle Garcia-Spears and assistant coaches Diane León, Sasha Martinez, Delilah Rael and Alexis Brown. On the team this season are Sophomore Maliyah Dominguez, Senior Jocelyne Ortega, Senior Joshlyn Medina, Senior Janae Dominguez, Junior Madison Schave, Sophomore Analea Cisneros, Sophomore Allison Segura, Junior Melinda Rael, Senior Aaliyah Piper, Senior Ariana Medina, and Junior Esperanza Vallejos.
Questa soccer is set to launch its season Wednesday, Sept. 11, with a 4 p.m. for an away match. Currently, MaxPreps does not have a roster listed for the Questa Soccer team.
