Granite Construction Pulls Out of Questa Site as Chevron Project Shifts

Operations at 59 NM-38 in Questa are winding down as Granite Construction has gradually cleared its presence from the property.

Over recent weeks, company logos have been removed and freight and equipment transported out of the yard. Granite Construction had previously been operating from the site in connection with remediation work in the area.

When contacted, Granite declined to comment on how many employees may have been laid off as part of the change. The company has also removed any reference to Questa from its website.

Granite had been involved in waste rockpile remediation projects tied to historic mining activity in the region.
In a statement, Chevron confirmed that Granite is nearing completion of one portion of the work.

“Granite is wrapping up work on the Capulin waste rockpile that is anticipated for completion in the first quarter of this year,” Chevron said. “Due to technical complexities and other items, work on the Goat Hill North waste rockpile has been paused at this time. Chevron is committed to progressing work at the Goat Hill North waste rockpile in a timely manner and in compliance with its regulatory obligations.”

Chevron did not provide additional details regarding the timeline for resumed work at Goat Hill North, however, they confirm that plans to resume the work is moving forward.

For now, Granite’s departure leaves questions about the future of remediation efforts at the mine and the potential impact on local employment.
