Questa Cheer captures Class A-2A Title, Secures Sixth State Championship in Decade

Questa Wildcat Cheer captured the Class A-2A cheer championship at the Nusenda Credit Union State Spirit Championship on Saturday, March 21, earning the top spot among small-school programs across New Mexico.

Questa finished ahead of Texico, which placed second, and Raton, which took third.

The Wildcats cheer team, coached by Maria Medina and Angel Medina, delivered a strong performance in crowd-leading, stunts and overall execution to secure the state title.

Senior Ariana Medina said the victory was especially meaningful.

“This win feels the best,” Medina said. “I think this win also represents our commitment and strength. This season we were able to stay disciplined, push each other and meet high expectations. As a senior, this is the best way to finish.”

Medina said the season emphasized perseverance and teamwork.

“This season taught us a lot about resilience and accountability,” she said. “There are so many moments that don’t go perfectly, but we learned how to push through, stay focused and not let mistakes define the outcome. Success comes from teamwork, hard work and believing in each other when things get tough.”

She added that balancing multiple sports was a challenge for the team.

“Having dual-sport athletes is always hard,” Medina said. “Communication and flexibility is key. We focused on making the most out of the time we had together. I give a lot of credit to our basketball girls. They pushed through the tiredness and injuries. It’s not easy to split your time, and we appreciate what they did for us.”

Medina also credited the community for its support throughout the season.

“We thank our community who showed up for us, because they did show up,” she said. “Thank you for supporting us throughout the season. It really does take a village and we would be nothing without the support.”
