The Town of Red River unveiled three newly purchased public transit buses last week during a ceremony attended by town officials, community members and local stakeholders.
The vehicles will replace the town’s existing fleet of three buses and are expected to help maintain and improve on-demand transit service for residents and visitors.
Red River’s transit service operates on an on-demand model, allowing riders to request transportation rather than following fixed routes or schedules. The no-cost service is available seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Riders can request a pickup by calling transit dispatch at (575) 770-5959.
Mayor Linda Calhoun said the new buses represent an investment in the community’s transportation system.
“This is a proud day for Red River,” Calhoun said. “These new buses are more than vehicles — they represent our commitment to building a more connected, accessible and sustainable community for everyone who lives, works and visits here. We’re excited to bring this upgraded service to our residents and guests.”
Town officials said the purchase followed a review of the community’s transit needs and determined replacing the aging fleet was the best way to maintain a safe and dependable service.
Each of the new buses includes climate control, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant accessibility features and improved fuel efficiency. The vehicles also feature a new exterior design.
