David Satrun

OBITUARY: David Satrun

d. Arp 17, 2026

There are people who move through the world quietly, and then there are those who leave it marked- by the things they built, the landscape they loved and the way they made others feel cared for. David Satrun was one of those.

David Satrun, age 69, quietly passed away on Apr.17 in his home in Costilla, NM. He was at heart, a mountain man- someone who understood the rhythm of the seasons and the land. He would pick apricots for the homemade jelly to share with friends. In the fall he would begin making his kimchi with the same care he gave to everything he created.

Under his hands ancient bristlecone pine would become expertly crafted heirloom pieces. He was a master carpenter and furniture maker, recognized not just for his skill, but for the spirit in each piece of salvaged wood. In his hands the work became something lasting. Like the relationships in much of his life, his work was built to endure.

He is survived by his siblings Eugene Satrun, Micheal Twidwell, Peter Satrun and Krista Cibis and by his circle of friends. Above all, he is remembered for his wildflower bouquets, music playing from his red Beetle, and most of all for his warmth and his love.

He will be dearly missed and there will always be a place for him around a late night bonfire.
