Community Arts Program Offers Summer Events for Families in Questa

A northern New Mexico community arts and movement program is offering summer activities for children and families, including a storytelling event in June and a youth dance camp in July.

Sala Reach, a community-based program under the nonprofit Localogy, announced two seasonal opportunities designed to engage young people through creative movement, storytelling and hands-on arts experiences.
On June 19, Sala Reach will partner with Twirl for a family storytelling event at Yoga Sala from 2 to 4 p.m. The free program invites children to explore adobe, the traditional building material used throughout northern New Mexico, through storytelling, music and interactive activities.

Amber Vasquez of Twirl will lead adobe-themed storytelling, accompanied by live music from local musician Robert Quijano.

Later in the summer, Sala Reach will host its annual Kids Dance Camp on four Wednesdays in July: July 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 2:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Dance instructor Monica McClelland will introduce participants to ballet, jazz and contemporary dance in what organizers describe as a supportive environment aimed at fostering creativity, confidence and connection.

This year’s camp also will include contributions from professional costume designer Tatyana De Pavloff and her local business, Sew Artful, which will provide artistic support and hands-on design opportunities for participants.

The programs are supported through the Taos Community Foundation’s Chevron Grants for Good program and funding from the LOR Foundation.

Sala Reach also offers weekly programming at Yoga Sala, including chair yoga on Mondays at 10 a.m., free yoga on Mondays at 5 p.m. and tai chi on Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Families interested in attending the June storytelling event or registering for the July dance camp can find more information at Yoga Sala’s website, on Instagram and Facebook at @yogasalaq, or by calling (575) 224-2102.
