STREAMING WARS: Obsession

Obsession

Starring: Indie Naverette, Michael Johnston, Cooper Tomlinson and Megan Lawless
Created and Directed by Curry Barker
Streaming on Peacock

First Impression:
First time Director Curry Barker has truly made something special in the realm of Horror and Suspense! Obsession is an instant classic that will be talked about for years to come. Newcomer Indie Naverette has burst onto the movie scene in a major way. She is a force to be reckoned with and will become a major Hollywood star due to this film.

As I have said in the past horror films are very hit and miss with me. They tend to get bogged down in how disgusting or how gory they can be. Or get caught up in cheap jump scares that do nothing to move the plot forward or make the story more interesting. So that is why I think this small indie movie by the name of Obsession has really captured the cultural zeitgeist in American culture in 2026.

First, we must examine how it became one of the most profitable films ever made. Produced on an initial budget of just $750,000, it has grossed $450 million at the box office as of July 2026.

In a world where social media leaves us increasingly isolated and divided, this film’s ability to generate such incredible word-of-mouth is genuinely impressive. For a film to capture the attention spans of Americans at such a scale is truly special this day and age.

I must give a big round of applause to first-time director Curry Baker, who accomplished an incredible feat at just 26 years old by making the most profitable movie ever. He is also a true student of the genre, filling the film with tributes to classics like The Exorcist and The Twilight Zone.

Also, a very distinguishable feature if the film is the lighting. The film is lit in a unique way to where there is mystery and dread awaiting the characters the lighting always follows. And last but not least the film would not have been able to be this successful without the performances of these unknown actors from the Star Nikki (Naverette) to the supporting characters of Bear(Johnston) Ian(Tomlinson) and Sarah(Lawless) they all contribute and build the story around the featured performance of Navarette.

Final Verdict:
Obsession is a film that comes around once and a while and surprises and delights you as a film watcher. It’s a film that sticks with you for days after you watch it and makes you want to rewatch it again to discover further details that may have been missed on the first watch. I’m sure you’ve seen the memes on Tik Tok and Instagram go ahead and check it out on Tik Tok it’s quite the treat.
