Community Business Steps Up: J&L And LOR Foundation Host Successful Trail Cleanups

Northern New Mexico’s scenic public lands are looking a lot cleaner and safer thanks to a powerful community effort. J&L (including J&L Rentals and J&L Powersports) and Enchanted Off-Road in Red River teamed up to launch a series of community trail cleanups aimed at promoting responsible recreation and preserving the region’s natural beauty.


The initiative kicked off on May 30th, when volunteers tackled the Cabresto Lake trail. While the team successfully removed a massive amount of litter, organizers noted a disappointing abundance of alcohol-related trash left behind by visitors. However, the off-road community rose to the occasion, leaving the area far better than they found it. Kent Irving from New Mexico Game & Fish was also on hand to share valuable conservation insights with the volunteers.


Building on that momentum, the groups hosted a second cleanup on June 29th at Mallette Park and the old golf course in Red River. Working alongside the U.S. Forest Service, participants cleared bags of trash and heavy debris. Ricardo León from the Carson National Forest joined the group to speak on crucial topics, including current wildfire conditions, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, and trail safety.


These vital stewardship projects are made possible by financial support from the LOR Foundation. The foundation funded the cleanup supplies, trash bags, snacks, and drinks, as well as fire extinguishers with mounts given to the first five volunteers at the events. Additionally, the LOR Foundation helped sponsor special trash cleanup bags that will be handed out for free all summer long. These free bags are available for pickup at the Questa Visitor Center, the J&L Powersports/Rentals location, and the Red River Chamber of Commerce.


According to the event organizers, this project is exactly what the off-road community is about: taking care of public lands, supporting one another, and setting a positive example. The work continues throughout the season. The next cleanup day is scheduled for August 30th to tackle the Lama trail area, and an October date is currently in the works.
