Did you know that every public library in New Mexico files an Annual Report with the New Mexico State Library? The New Mexico State Library then participates in the national Public Library Survey administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The data collected helps local, state, and federal agencies plan programs, evaluate services, advocate for libraries, and develop budgets that support communities across New Mexico.
This year’s report was no small undertaking. At 42 pages, it included a remarkable number of questions covering every aspect of library operations, from circulation and programs to technology and community engagement. Any figure that differed significantly from the previous fiscal year also required an explanation.
The numbers for FY 2025-2026 tell an exciting story about the role the Questa Public Library continues to play in our community.
By the Numbers
• 7,574 people visited the library.
• 2,638 physical items were checked out.
• 1,297 children’s materials were borrowed.
• 73 programs for children ages 5-11 were held, with 686 children attending.
• 127 programs for adults ages 19 and older reached 1,148 participants.
• 70 children registered for Summer Reading, generating 456 visits from children and adults.
• 103 interlibrary loan requests connected patrons to resources beyond our local collection.
• 38 Wrapped Reads boxes were distributed to teens, encouraging reading and exploration.
These statistics represent much more than numbers. They reflect children discovering new favorite books, families participating in library programs, adults connecting through educational and cultural events, and community members finding the resources they need. Following the challenges of the previous fiscal year, when a major plumbing disaster required extensive repairs and renovations, FY 2025-2026 marked a welcome return to full service and community engagement. The strong participation reflected in this year’s report demonstrates the value of the library to Questa and the surrounding communities.
