The inaugural “Kick it in Questa” event, held on August 23 and 24 at the Questa Molycorp Field, wrapped up a successful two-day celebration of community spirit, friendly competition, and family fun. The event, spearheaded by local Matthew Rael, drew an estimated 200 attendees and brought out a lively energy to the village.
The weekend was highlighted by the co-ed kickball tournament, which featured five local teams 18 years and older. In a nail-biting championship match, The “YUNCS” clinched the title with a narrow 5-4 victory and won a cash prize. Finishing in second place were the team “FYB”, followed by “Sons of Pitches” in third, “Ball Busters” in fourth, and “Riverside” in fifth. According to Rael, the tournament showcased not only competitive spirit but also great sportsmanship among the teams, which averaged 7-8 players each.
The event, which Rael created, was a massive community effort. “We had some unexpected occurrences that arose but rolled with the punches and made the most out of every situation,” Rael said. A total of 39 volunteers, made up of mostly 16 to 25 year olds, dedicated their time to making sure the weekend ran smoothly, a sign of the community’s support for the event.
Beyond the kickball tournament, the celebration offered a wide range of activities for the youth. Kids flocked to the “Kids’ Zone,” which featured a 75-foot inflatable obstacle course that was a huge hit, along with face painting, a toy bow-and-arrow setup, and a toy axe-throwing station. The event also offered volleyball, spike ball, and mini-soccer for anyone interested.
Attendees were able to enjoy some local bites with food provided by Wildcat’s Den and Arson Pizzeria. Vendor booths included Andrea Haddix, who sold custom jewelry, and Vida del Norte, which hosted an alcohol prevention awareness tent. The first evening of the event also featured live entertainment from the high-energy band, Northern Revolution, from 7-11:00 pm.
Plans for 2026 are already underway, with organizers promising a new addition to the event that they believe will attract even more attendees and drive greater competition. The details of the new element will be announced later in the year.
Rael expressed his sincere gratitude to all the event sponsors, volunteers, and participants who helped make the weekend a reality. “Your support was the key to making this event such a success, and we couldn’t have done it without you,” he said.
