Mose’s Furniture Barn closed at the end of January following a serious workplace accident that has forced its owner into retirement. The furniture store opened in May 2025.
Earlier in January, Mose Renault suffered an accident involving a table saw that resulted in the amputation of his index finger and severe injuries to his middle fingers. He said the injuries have left him unable to continue creating custom furniture, prompting him to liquidate his remaining inventory through the end of January.
Renault, who is turning 81 this year, said the support he has received through a GoFundMe campaign has been instrumental in helping him prepare for retirement and find stability in his later years.
“Money is loving energy, and I am surrounded by love by the people who have contributed to help me,” Renault said. “It’s amazing and humbling and beautiful, and I am so grateful.”
Renault has worked with wood for 28 years and credits his sobriety as the inspiration that led him to begin making furniture. “God works in mysterious ways, that’s for darn sure,” he said.
Due to the extent of his injuries, Renault said he is unable to take on even light projects and is now looking ahead to retirement. “I’m ready to stop working and to enjoy life,” he said.
