Questa High School senior Donny Santistevan has been awarded the NMAA Foundation’s “We Go Above, So You Can Go Beyond” Scholarship, recognizing student-athletes who demonstrate dedication in athletics, academics and their communities.
Santistevan was selected alongside Ava Drew Gonzales of Las Cruces High School and Henry Newcomb of Atrisco Heritage Academy as this year’s scholarship recipients.
“It was an honor to be selected for this scholarship and be able to represent my school and my community,” Santistevan said. “This scholarship will help me reach my educational goals debt free.”
Santistevan plans to attend the University of New Mexico, where he intends to earn a business degree and pursue a career in finance after graduation.
During his time at Questa High School, Santistevan participated in multiple sports, playing basketball for several seasons and competing in soccer throughout all four years of high school.
He said the experiences he gained through athletics extended far beyond competition.
“I enjoyed the memories, friendships, and fun that came along with these sports,” Santistevan said.
Santistevan credits his parents as his biggest inspiration and says their support helped guide him throughout his academic and athletic journey.
He also shared advice for younger athletes in his hometown and across the state.
“Enjoy what you’re working on and always have fun,” he said.
The NMAA Foundation’s scholarship program recognizes student-athletes across New Mexico who exemplify leadership, commitment and achievement both on and off the field.
