The Questa Public Library is a strong part of the Northern New Mexico community. In addition to the obvious services, checking out books, using a computer, finding DVDs and audiobooks, requesting books through the library’s network, and more, the Library is able to offer programs and materials which would be out-of-reach.
A non-profit organization founded in 2010, the Friends of the Questa Public Library, is able to assist and support our Library in many ways. This new monthly column will introduce readers to the additional resources the FQPL helps to fund. Follow to learn what our group is doing for our community and how you could become a Friend.
Most recently, the summer reading program was provided for elementary age children with activities, free books, music, food, and incredible prizes. “Unearth a Story” focused on history, dinosaurs, the earth, and more. An average of twenty participants each day dug for treasures, made cookies, created elaborate chalk designs, enjoyed pizza, listened to our local mariachi band, and more. They left with books about dinosaurs, home activities, and t-shirts, ending the weeks-long program with a hike at Eagle Rock Lake and lunch provided by the Wildcat’s Den.
Some of our past summer programs have focused on music, nature, and cultures around the world, all with the focus of encouraging library participation for children and their families, fostering the love of reading, and providing safe and healthy summer activities for Questa’s youth. The summer reading program is just one of the programs the FQPL supports with funds and volunteers.
Next month, learn what part the FQPL played in the library expansion completed in 2021, along with the beautiful memorial garden, and the upcoming plans for more beautification!
