Friends of the Questa Public Library: Growing Literacy, Community, and Opportunity

We honor our Friends during Friends of the Library Week, October 19-25, as always! Friends of the Questa Public Library is more than just a support group—it’s the heartbeat behind many of the programs, resources, and improvements that make our library a vibrant hub for the community. Led by President Evelyn Coggins and Acting President Margaret Lejuste, the Friends work tirelessly to ensure the library remains a place of learning, connection, and inspiration for all ages.

One of the group’s most impactful contributions is their ongoing work to secure grants that fund the library’s yearly Summer Reading Program. This beloved program draws children and families from across the area, offering engaging activities, reading incentives, and special events to keep young minds active during the summer months. Thanks to the Friends’ dedication, the program continues to grow in attendance and scope each year, fostering a lifelong love of reading in Questa’s youth.

Beyond programming, the Friends ensure the library is well-stocked and well-equipped. From new books and educational materials to essential technology and furnishings, their efforts help the library meet the evolving needs of the community.
One of the most cherished additions to the library grounds is the Memorial Garden, made possible through a grant obtained by the Friends. This peaceful space offers visitors a place to reflect, read, and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Most recently, Friends hosted a pop-up book sale during the Questa Art Tour, blending the love of literature with the Village’s thriving arts scene. The event drew locals and visitors alike. Friends raised funds to support future library projects while showcasing the library’s role as a creative and cultural partner in the community.

The Friends’ commitment extends beyond the library walls. They actively support the librarian and staff in their outreach efforts, ensuring the library maintains a strong presence in the community. They also champion statewide programs such as the Rural Library Initiative, which provides critical funding and resources to rural libraries across New Mexico.

Through their vision, hard work, and unwavering dedication, the Friends of the Questa Public Library are ensuring that the library remains not just a building filled with books, but a living, breathing part of Questa’s cultural and educational fabric. Their work is a reminder that when a community invests in its library, it invests in its future.

Thank you, Friends!
