Richard J. Baca age 84, a resident of Cerro, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, following an unexpected illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Rufina Baca; siblings Russell McKissick, Robert McKissick, Paublita Campos; and mother-in-law Priscilla Quintana.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Debbie Baca, who was by his bedside when he died; his children Richard Johnny Joe Baca (Sandi), James Nelson, Bryan Baca (Sarah), Roni Baca English (Todd), Shannon Gabbert (Gary), Dale Brummet (Shelly); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Teresa Cobos (†Steve), Roseann McKissick and Antonio Griego (Mary); in-laws Alonzo Quintana, Marlene Revera (Michael), Judy Quintana (Frank), Michael Quintana (Cindy); special friends Mark Selph and Ronald Santistevan, who were also at his side when he passed; plus many other relatives and friends.
Richard was a kind loving man. He was a friend to everyone, and everyone loved him. He never hesitated to help those in need. He was kind and generous, and had a way with words, which made him quite the jokester. He had that contagious laugh and great smile. He always had a great story to tell, he loved animals and they loved him. Richard got his nickname, “Hungry,” back in the 1980s when the guys would be playing baseball with Cerro, Questa and Taos teams. He would be cheering his team on saying, “Come on you guys, let’s go, we’re hungry,” and since then, “Hungry” became his nickname. He was very smart, read a lot of books, and was curious about everything. He made an impression on everyone. Everyone will remember him by one of his stories. He will be greatly missed and loved. We will treasure the moments we had with him and hold them close to our hearts.
RIP my Honey, I loved you till death did us part.
