QCC UPDATE: September 2022

It’s a Wrap! 2022 Questa Studio Art Tour

After some apprehension, it was a strong year for the Questa Studio Art Tour. With personal income tight, the tour still brought much needed dollars into the Questa community. With over 52 artists participating at 16 hubs, visitors got quite a treat. They appreciated and purchased multiple genres of art and traditional crafts. This year the tour also promoted and marketed over 25 local businesses that sponsored the tour.

The average artist’s sales over the two-day event were strong with over one fourth of artists making $1,000 or more and many making over $3,000. With increased traffic in our community, local businesses thrived. This was truly a community event. Although our final visitor tally hasn’t been completed, we estimate that 600-800 folks spent time enjoying the arts and the sites in Questa and the surrounding community.

A great thanks goes out to the QSAT Planning Committee, Peggy Trigg, Roger Harrington, Ellen Wood, Monique Parker, Maria Mikhailas, Linda Betz, Mary Jo Kelly and Judy Rutledge. We would also like to thank our funding partners, New Mexico Arts and Taos Community Foundation. Local sponsors include Taos Bakes, Granite, ArtQuesta, Virsylvia Farms, Ambitions, and Wow Art Glass. Other local sponsors include CarQuest, Mrs. Rios Thai Kitchen, My Tia’s Cafe, North Star Tire and Auto, Questa Lumber and Hardware, Cerro Vista Farms, Sierra Hermosa RV Park, RJ’s Grill, Questa Lodge and RV, Roots and Herbs, Yoga Sala, Questa Credit Union, Questa Center SuperMarket. Bubba’s Bar-B-Que, and 101 Bar and Grill.

We would also like to thank the Questa Creative Council for allowing us to be one of their local projects and for helping us with grant funding and the use of their skilled staff. Thanks also goes out to the Village of Questa and the Questa Economic Development Fund for the use of the Visitors Center during the tour, and for all their support and encouragement. We would also like to thank St. Anthony’s Church for the visitor tours. Finally, we would like to thank the Questa Del Rio News for their publicity and promotion. Please forgive us if we left someone out! It was a huge team effort!

Last but certainly not least, a great thanks goes out to all the wonderful artists who participated in this year’s tour!! Without all of you, this wonderful event wouldn’t have been able to happen!

Questa Creative Council Board member and artist: I paint the Southwest because I love the land! Being raised in the country, I have a strong tie to it. It’s a sense of deep emotions, of memory, and of history. While I am painting, I try to capture the feeling of the place, what is all around me: the smells, what I hear, and what I see – a complete picture. My abstracts represent “My Other Side.” I play with emotions through color, shapes, and energy to make playful compositions.
