The Questa Farmers Market is inviting the community to gather this Sunday, July 5, for a special “Interdependence Day” event dedicated to honoring local emergency responders and military veterans.
The special market will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the regular market grounds located behind the Questa Visitors Center at 1 NM-38.
As a gesture of gratitude, first responders and veterans who attend wearing a district or branch shirt, hat, or uniform will receive a complimentary market token. The tokens can be spent with any participating vendor, and several vendors will also be offering specialty menu items tailored for the occasion.
“Questa Farmers Market is a community-focused gathering hub of connection and commerce,” said Lisa Pham, program director for the market. “As we move through this ever-changing time of the unknown, our community net will become more and more important. This is our way of saying thank you to those who help keep our home secure, while also supporting our local growers and makers who are the backbone of this market.”
In addition to the tribute, Sunday’s market features a full lineup of family-friendly activities. Attendees can participate in a morning movement practice and enjoy live music from local musician Michael Rael. The event will also feature fresh, locally grown produce, food and drinks from regional makers, featured artisan booths, and community organization tables. A dedicated kids’ corner with face painting will be available for families.
The event is being sponsored by the LOR Foundation, which provided funding to help support the community celebration.
The Questa Farmers Market is currently accepting applications for Featured Artisan Maker booths and is seeking volunteers to help run the event. Those interested in volunteering or vending can email organizers at growersmakers@gmail.com.
The market—which is a program of the local non-profit Localogy—operates every Sun. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Oct. 4, culminating in the annual Cambalache Harvest Festival. Organizers remind shoppers that participating growers and producers accept SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB), and Bonus Bucks.
