Questa Achievers Shine At Taos County Fair

It was a long weekend filled with fur, feathers and fun for members of the Questa Achievers 4-H Club who earned numerous awards in animal projects, photography and art at the Taos County Fair. The club is led by Denise Winslow-Lawrence.

The club’s members worked hard throughout the year, and their efforts paid off with grand champion titles, best-of-breed honors, photography awards and projects selected for the New Mexico State Fair in Albuquerque, which is scheduled for Sept. 10-20.

Among the club’s top honors:

  • Adrienne Rael: Grand Champion Sheep and first place Goat.
  • Paityn Apodaca: Best of Breed Chicken, Open Division.
  • Lilah Montoya: Best of Breed Chicken; first place State Fair-selected Photography; two second-place Photography awards; third-place Photography; and third-place Poster Board for a Blue Andalusian Chicken.
  • Olivia Montoya: First place Poster Board for a Mini Lop Rabbit.
  • Richard Rowell: Third place Chicken.
  • Jeremiah Ortega: Showmanship Buckle, Poultry; and third place Poultry, Asiatic Division.
  • Jackson Ortega: Fourth place Poultry, Asiatic Division.
  • Olivia Seim: Grand Champion Rabbit and buckle, and Best of Breed Rabbit.
  • Anna Arguello: Best of Breed Rabbit and first place.
  • Emma Arguello: Reserve Grand Champion and buckle; Best of Breed; first place State Fair-selected Photography; and second place Photography.
  • Alianna Vigil: First Premium Rabbit.
  • DJ Cinciripini: First place State Fair-selected Photography, second place Photography and third place Photography.
  • JT Radcliff: First place State Fair-selected Photography and second place Photography.
  • Amber Cote: First place State Fair-selected Pencil Drawing, Art.

Several of the members’ projects were selected to advance to the State Fair, providing an opportunity for the young exhibitors to showcase their work on a larger stage.

The Questa Achievers expressed appreciation to the Taos County Fair Board, superintendents, sponsors, buyers, 4-H leaders and 4-H members for their continued support of the fair and its youth programs.

The club also recognized the Questa FFA group and its sponsor for their hard work and contributions to the event.

With a successful fair behind them, the Questa Achievers are already looking forward to returning next year.
Emma Arguello is 10 years old and serves as the Questa Achievers 4-H historian.
