Questa Artists Run For The Hills!

After last year’s big success for Questa artists and the Vino in the Valley event, Red River is again inviting our local artists to this popular event. Father’s Day weekend will be a chance to not only enjoy Made in New Mexico foods, and all New Mexican music performances, but also to see an exciting exhibit of northern New Mexican crafts and art.

A centrally-located large white tent will be reserved for our artists. A full dozen Questa area painters, printmakers, leatherworkers, and jewelry makers will share the space, alongside a special display of our much-missed Art Questa co-owners, Sandra and Roger Harrington. Sandra’s pottery dinnerware and decor pieces are uniquely beautiful. Roger’s expressionistic and abstract paintings are some of the best of Questa, and his jewelry designs combine metals, and unique stones at times, for one-of-a-kind yet still classic appeal.

Torre Strong, our Questa leatherworker and former manager of the Saturday Art Market, will host the group show and sale. Many of the artists will be on hand to present their work directly to shoppers, at direct-to-artist prices. Most of the local artists here will also be part of the 11th-annual Questa Art Tour coming this Aug. So, their Vino in the Valley appearance will serve as an art tour preview.

Look for monoprints by Betsy Pierce, and hopefully some of her popular tin work, paintings by Mary Jo Kelly, Angela Marinari, Boneta Curry-Brown, Mary Miller, Joan Norris, Vanette Harris and Ellen Wood. Ellen will also have her unique cards for sale, Vanette has become known for her painted canvas pillows.
This event will be open Fri-Sun, Jun. 19 to 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, and 5 p.m. on Sun. Vino in the Valley is hosted by the Red River Chamber of Commerce. It has run every Father’s Day weekend for over twenty years. The admission fee includes a commemorative wine-tasting glass, access to multiple wine tastings of favorite and undiscovered New Mexico vineyards, access to the food court, live music, workshops, and best of all – local art and artists!

So, bring dad up to the mountain coolness just over the hill from Questa. Enjoy this high-country salon of local art, New Mexico foods and wine, and a culture that is very different from the northern Rio Grande Valley we live in here in Questa. They have Brandenburg Park, they have the vintners, and we bring artistic talent. From our annual art tour, to our Alumbra Holiday Market, and events such as this, art is what Questa is becoming known for!
