If you’ve driven through Questa recently, you may have noticed a transformation underway at the digital sign near the center of town, adjacent to Veterans Park.
The project kicked off in mid-October, when about a dozen community volunteers cleared the site, removing old landscaping bricks, eliminating invasive Chinese elm trees and weeding the surrounding area. Local beautification committee members Gabe Herrera, Jason Gonzalez and Nancy Parker joined the effort, making an immediate and visible difference in the heart of the village.
Next, Gecko Landscaping will give the area a fresh, low-maintenance xeriscape design. The initial stonework and foundation will be completed soon, and the landscaping company will return in the spring to add native flowers, drought-tolerant cacti and hardy shrubs.
The long-term vision is to enhance both corners of the intersection at the Questa traffic light, creating a welcoming entrance for visitors and strengthening community pride. The proposed design will reflect the area’s agricultural and mining heritage while highlighting the region’s natural beauty.
Community members can also contribute to the project by donating old mining carts, historic mining tools or antique farming equipment for display at the site. The project organizers will coordinate transportation and installation and provide a plaque recognizing each donation.

The revitalization effort highlights the power of local collaboration. Funded by the LOR Foundation, the project is supported by the Questa Economic Development Fund and the Village of Questa. The partnership demonstrates how civic organizations, local businesses and residents can work together to enhance public spaces and celebrate the community’s heritage.
