Who we are
Our mission is to support small farm, garden, and food-based businesses in northern Taos County, and youth through market internships and mentorship. We are a program of Localogy, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) in Questa. We organize the farmers market each Sunday during the growing season, offer a paid youth Internship, and we coordinate volunteers and summer camps to help maintain the gardens and market site. The QFM program is run by a small staff, many volunteers, and teen interns.
Jobs for youth
We also partner with Cultivo, a nonprofit that connects youth to farming through internships. Cultivo begins hiring this month! It offers work-based learning, mentorship, skill development, and is focused on farming (mainly at Cerro Vista Farm in Cerro) and selling at the market. Internships are for youth ages 14 to 18. For more information go to cultivoproject.org/jobs.
River Community Church will run the coffee shop at the QFM and will hire youth as well. Interested? Reach out to Rachel and Jesse Hardy, at (281) 732-8263.
Lastly, we will hire one or two youth Interns to work with vendor and site manager Alex Medina. Contact us at (575) 224-2102 or growersmakers@gmail.com.
Funding and support
Each year we apply for funding, accept donations, and sell T-shirts and QFM merchandise to pay interns, musicians, improve market infrastructure, plant gardens, and cover program costs.
Special thanks to our 2024 season funders: the LOR Foundation, and the Taos Community Foundation with Chevron Grants for Good and an Impact Grant.
We are always supported by community members, summer camp youth, and visiting volunteer groups. The Questa Economic Development Fund provides the land for the marketsite. If you would like to support us, you can make a tax-exempt donation at our website or purchase a T-shirt through our online store, questafarmersmarket.org/t-shirts.
Thanks to all the many people who work to maintain the market site and gardens. Thanks to Questa Credit Union for donating the shipping container to provide garden tool storage. Thanks to Kit Carson Electric Cooperative for trimming the shade trees, and local arborist, Baby Gorilla, for pruning the fruit trees. All these efforts help create a more beautiful community.
We work with Vida del Norte Coalition, Voices of the Northern Rio Grande (formerly Questa Stories), Questa Creative Council, Cultivo, Living Word Ministries, and other community nonprofits and individuals. Thanks to all! We are looking forward to this growing season!
