Stories on Film — San Luis Valley“A Story To Tell”Documentary Collection Spanish/Mexican Family Oral History Part 3

The Father Al Muñiz Story

The picturesque San Luis Valley is located in the heart of Southern Colorado. Its residents are descendants of the Spanish conquistadors whose families have lived here for hundreds of years. Our community’s rich cultural traditions have been passed on from generation to generation.

The story of Father Alfonso Muñiz begins in Capulín, a small town in the western part of the San Luis Valley. This documentary highlights what it was like growing up in Colorado’s San Luis Valley in the early 1930s.

After a recording career as a Country and Western singer and a stint in the US Air Force, Al Muñiz became a priest in the Sacred Heart Order. After being a priest of the Sacred Heart in Franklin, Wisconsin, Muñiz spent two years in Puerto Rico, preparing to be parish priest for East Gary, Indiana. He served there from 1972 to 1983. He later served in Guayaquil, Ecuador from 1987 to 2004. Included with this film documentary DVD/CD package are recordings of Al’s original Country and Western music. Total Running Time is 38:06
