In reality, the librarian’s desk isn’t quite where it belongs these days. You might remember hearing that the library was seriously flooded on January 29.
As I write this, my real desk is carefully stowed away in the reception/archive area of the library, along with bookcases and equipment from the children’s room. The desk I work from these days is on a table in the art room in the adjacent building, the Cisneros Family & Youth Center.
The librarian’s desk isn’t just a piece of furniture; it holds memories of countless interactions and moments of inspiration. I remember the shy child who blossomed into a confident reader, the elderly patron who just wanted to feel safe for a moment, and the volunteer who had just made a new friend. Each day at the desk brings new adventures and connections.
I miss working from my desk and the sense of familiarity it brings. As we navigate this temporary displacement, I remain hopeful and excited about the future. The library will rise again, stronger and more vibrant than ever. My desk will find its rightful place, and we’ll continue to create lasting memories and foster a love of learning and discovery.
Thank you for your unwavering support and understanding during this challenging time. We look forward to welcoming you back to a fully restored library soon.
