The Blue Show at Questa Public Library

Works of Art by Claire Coté and Nicole Thibodeau

For the months of May and June, the Questa Public Library will be hosting a wonderful array of “blue” artwork inspired by nature and the interaction of art materials. The show will feature mixed media art pieces by Nicole Thibodeau and blue cyanotypes by Claire Coté. “The works explore the relationship of time to the natural world and the artists’ spontaneity of interaction with materials. Made amidst life’s fullness, busyness and poignancy, these works are reflections on daily life, nature and the small things and materials that inspire us and catch our attention,” says Claire Coté.

This explorative show will look at work produced with a variety of materials including watercolor and acrylic paints, inks, cyanotype, collage and repurposed materials. Claire and Nicole’s work will focus on the calmness, serenity and natural elegance produced by using saturated blues and earth tones as well as references to local shapes and vegetation.

This exhibition is also part of the Taking. Up. Space. initiative facilitated by ThriveTogether Network. Taking Up Space or T.U.S. is a Grassroots Female Focused Community Global Art Exhibition empowering artists to take up more space and exhibit their art in the month of May 2023. See more from this initiative by viewing the #takingupspace2023 hashtag on Instagram. Learn more about “The Blue Show” at www.clairecote.com and www.nicolethibodeau.com .

Please stop by the library for a fun and relaxing opening on Saturday, May 13 from 2 –4 p.m. Help us celebrate these two talented young artists and their interpretation of our beautiful surrounding area. Refreshments will be served.

Questa Creative Council Board member and artist: I paint the Southwest because I love the land! Being raised in the country, I have a strong tie to it. It’s a sense of deep emotions, of memory, and of history. While I am painting, I try to capture the feeling of the place, what is all around me: the smells, what I hear, and what I see – a complete picture. My abstracts represent “My Other Side.” I play with emotions through color, shapes, and energy to make playful compositions.
