The Village of Questa has received more than $2 million in state transportation funding to rehabilitate Cabresto Road and Lower Embargo Road, officials announced this week.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation awarded $1,282,500 for Cabresto Road and $727,602 for Lower Embargo Road through its Transportation Project Fund program. The money will pay for pavement rehabilitation, culvert replacement, drainage upgrades, utility meter and box adjustments, signage improvements and construction management.
Both projects are scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and must be completed by June 30, 2028. The village is required to provide a 5% local match.
The funding request was prepared by the village’s project manager and presented by the village clerk to the Northern Pueblos Regional Transportation Planning Organization in April. The NPRTPO reviewed and ranked the projects before forwarding recommendations to NMDOT and the state transportation secretary.
Village officials said design and planning are already complete. A contractor has been secured for Cabresto Road and will be procured soon for Lower Embargo Road.
“The Village of Questa would like to thank the New Mexico Department of Transportation and the members of the Northern Pueblos Regional Transportation Planning Organization for their support and consideration,” the village said in a statement.
Construction on both roads is expected to begin in April 2026.
