A one-day workshop focused on regenerative ranching practices in arid environments will be held Saturday, May 3, in Questa.
Fifth-generation cattle rancher Fernando Falomir, an expert in high-desert regenerative production with Understanding Ag, LLC, will lead the event. Falomir works with grazers worldwide in arid climates and will share techniques for improving soil health, restoring ecosystem function, and increasing profitability through adaptive grazing.
The workshop will be held at the VFW in Questa from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., where participants will learn about the principles of soil health and livestock management. In the afternoon, attendees will visit an acequia-irrigated pasture and a public lands grazing allotment to see regenerative practices in action.
The event is geared toward grazers, farmers, landowners, and land managers interested in sustainable land stewardship in northern New Mexico and the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Both novice and experienced producers are encouraged to attend.
The workshop is hosted by Taos Soil and Water Conservation District in collaboration with the De La Tierra Coalition, which includes Alianza Agri-Cultura de Taos, Taos County Economic Development Corporation, Taos Valley Acequia Association, and Taos Land Trust, in partnership with Understanding Ag, LLC.
