The Questa Independent School Board rescinded their previous decision on the 2023-2024 school calendar, approving a new calendar setting the first day of the upcoming school year on Aug. 7 and the last day on May 29.
The previous choice had set the first day on July 31 and the last day on June 4. With this new decision, the entirety of the months of June and July will be included for summer vacation.
The school calendar will remain as a 4-day week (Monday through Thursday) with the school day starting at 7:55 a.m. and ending at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 2-3, Sept. 8, Nov. 17, Jan. 19, and May 30–31 are set aside for “professional development.”
This calendar still needs to be submitted to the New Mexico Public Education Department. Once they approve, it will be finalized.
“The Board can still vote to rescind this approval to discuss another option before it gets submitted but I don’t see that happening,” Board Member Jose Lovato said after the April 5 meeting. The vote was 3-2.
