The Questa Wildcat Football team is headed to the State Playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. News of making it to the playoffs broke on Sunday, October 27 as players and their families gathered at El Monte Carlo to hear if they made it.
In the first round, 8 teams were seeded including Mescalero Apache, Lordsburg, Clayton/ Des Moines, Questa, Tatum, Dulce, Menaul, and Escalante. Questa was a #12 seed. Four teams advanced to the quarterfinals including Melrose, Gateway Christian, Mesilla Valley, and Fort Sumner/ House.
Questa ended the regular season with five wins against Navajo Pine, Dulce, Pine Hill, Ramah and Cloudcroft. The Wildcats ended their season 5-5 with tough loses against Walsenburg, Escalante, Fort Sumner/ House, Menaul and Clayton
The Questa Wildcats face off against the Clayton Yellowjackets in their first round of state on Friday, November 1 at 7 p.m. in Clayton. They last played the Yellowjackets on Friday, October 25 and lost 58-6.
The Wildcats have overcome impressive feats this season, showing much promise for the years to come, improving from a 1-7 record last season. Coach Dwayne Ortega said early in the season he hoped for a new era for Questa Football and the program has proven to shown significant improvement.
