There’s something special about summertime in Questa.
As the weather warms up and the school year winds down, more people start spending time outdoors again: gathering at community events, reconnecting with neighbors, and enjoying the outdoors. Summer is a reminder that some of the best parts of living in a small town are the opportunities we have to come together.
And this season, there are plenty of chances to do exactly that.
On Sat, Jun 6, the Annual Questa Fishing Derby, one of the community’s most anticipated traditions of the year, returns to Eagle Rock Lake. Registration opens at 7 a.m. with fishing from 8 a.m. to noon. Whether you’re casting a line yourself or simply coming out to enjoy the morning air and cheer on local anglers, it’s a great excuse to gather with neighbors and spend time in nature.
Later in the month, on June 19, young local musicians will take the stage for the culminating performance of Chris Arellano’s Summer School of Rock, a program that gives students ages 10–18 the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and perform live together like real musicians. School of Rock performances are always a fun and powerful reminder of just how much talent, creativity, and heart exist in our community.
Then, on Jun 26, the community is invited to gather again for a special catered reception hosted by Norteñas Connect at the Questa Library to honor some of the incredible women who help shape life in Questa—small business owners, educators, civic leaders, mothers, grandmothers, and others whose contributions make this community stronger every day.
The LOR Foundation is proud to support all of these events because we believe strong communities are built on connection, creativity, and local leadership. We’ll continue to share updates on times, activities, and additional details on our Facebook page, @LORFoundationQuesta, as they become available.
If you need support for a project or event that could make life better in Questa, we’d love to hear from you. LOR funds projects designed and led by Questa locals. No formal application or nonprofit experience is required, and most eligible projects receive funding within 30 days.
To learn more or share your idea, contact Community Officer Maria Gonzalez at maria@lorfoundation.org (or find her at one of the community events listed above). This summer, let’s show up for Questa!
