It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary R. Culbertson, of Albuquerque, formerly of Questa, New Mexico, who passed away on Oct. 17, 2026, following a short illness.

Mary spent most of her working life in Red River, where she worked as a waitress and housekeeper from the early 1960s through the early 2000s. While working at the Alpine Lodge, she met and fell in love with her cowboy, who was working for Galleger and Gwinn Stables at the time. Their love story led to 46 years of marriage.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Eva Montoya of Questa, New Mexico; her beloved husband of 46 years, Jerry Culbertson of Questa and Red River, New Mexico; and her childhood best friend, Olivia Rael of Questa.

She is survived by her daughter, Stormy Trujillo of Albuquerque; her grandsons, Joe’l Trujillo of Albuquerque, Florentino (Christina) Trujillo of Camarillo, California, and Elijah Trujillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her great-granddaughters, Vida Guerrero and Halona Trujillo; her brothers, Juan Raul Montoya and Claudio (Dora) Montoya, both of Albuquerque; her sister, Virginia Zoll of Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary will be remembered by her family and friends for the life she lived, the love she shared, and the memories she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Private services will be held at a later date.
