Alumbra de Questa Christmas Market on December 9

The Alumbra Christmas Market will take place again this year for its 8th year!

Alumbra de Questa is a community fair, put together in an effort to keep all our resources in Questa for the holiday season. Through this effort, the money that people would normally spend outsourcing to major corporations is instead kept in circulation in our own small northern communities.

“At Alumbra, we support our own local artists, artisans, craftspeople, and creators, thus supporting our own local economy. We also win by purchasing unique, handmade gifts for our loved ones which are more personal, meaningful, and lasting,” stated Questa Creative Council Executive Director Sierra Hedberg.

The holiday market is full of light and cheer for the season, a place people can enjoy lunch or dinner, strolling through the market with the family while sipping hot chocolate and listening to live local music… and maybe even a visit with Santa Claus!

For this year’s fair, organizers hope to have at least 25 vendors selling a wide variety of locally made art, crafts, and goodies. Last year there were 18 who participated. What’s also new is that the QEDF has handed off the administration of the event to the QCC.

“In years past, Alumbra has been attempted in an outdoor setting. However, the market has transitioned into being an indoor market, held at the Questa VFW. This is more appealing for vendors, musicians, and attendees so we can all keep cozy and warm. Mark your calendar! The market is a ONE DAY ONLY event and runs all day at the VFW on December 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” Sierra says.

When asked about what the hopes and goals for this year’s market is, Sierra says, “our hope for Alumbra de Questa 2023 is that we see our village come together, surrounding one another with the warmth of presence.

We hope to see our local artists thriving, provided this opportunity to sell their products, as well as happy village people checking off their holiday shopping lists. We hope the Alumbra Market this year exudes its true meaning and tradition, representative of the brave hearts of our village people, and as a place that Questa continues to shine brightly through darkness. We hope it is a fun, holiday event that our village looks forward to and makes a part of their Questa holiday traditions. There will also be a live Nativity you won’t want to miss.”
