Monique Parker
While earning a BA in Mass Communications and Advertising from San Jose State University, Monique won a copywriting scholarship which she used to buy her first Macintosh computer and launch an ad agency working with startup companies in Silicon Valley. She went on to become the Communications Manager for the Metro Publishing Group, an alternative and weekly newspaper family in Northern California before fulfilling a long held dream of copywriting for Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco Systems, Sun Micro Systems, Hewlett Packard, Samsung, and Adobe, before trading in technology for more altruistic pursuits. In 2003, Monique fell in love with and relocated to Questa where she earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University-Los Angeles. She loved teaching English Composition at Questa High School and the University of New Mexico-Taos, where she also founded and directed the Yoga Teacher Training Program. In 2014, Monique launched Taos Yoga Therapy, a boutique yoga studio that served the Taos community for seven years before closing due to Covid. For enrichment, she teaches Vedic chanting and yoga at UNM-Taos, gives Vedic astrology readings, and enjoys painting, cycling, hiking, and making frequent pilgrimages to India.
