A long-anticipated disciplinary hearing involving BestCare Pharmacy will take place this month during a three-day meeting of the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy.
Originally scheduled for May, the hearing was postponed and is now set for July 14 through 16. The proceedings will begin each day at 9 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. or until business concludes.
The New Mexico Pharmacy Board told our publication they were unable to comment about the complaint that launched an investigation into the pharmacy, however, the Facebook page for the pharmacy took to social media, writing “The owners believe these pharmacies are being unfairly targeted by certain Board inspectors, as evidenced by inconsistent treatment and a lack of response to inquiries aimed at addressing and resolving concerns. If the outcome of this hearing results in closure, four additional rural communities in New Mexico could be left without access to vital pharmacy services. Bestcare Pharmacies have operated safely for the past eight years, providing essential care—including vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The page went on to ask for community support through letters, emails, social media posts, or in-person by attending the July hearing.
On July 14 and 15, the meeting will be held at the Board of Pharmacy Conference Room, located at 5500 San Antonio Drive NE in Albuquerque. On July 16, the board will convene in the New Mexico Board of Nursing Conference Room located at 6301 Indian School Road NE, 7th floor, also in Albuquerque.
Public attendance is welcome, and accommodation will be provided for individuals with disabilities or language access needs. Requests should be made by contacting the board administrator at (505) 222-9830 or emailing pharmacy.board@rld.nm.gov as early as possible.
Agendas will be posted 72 hours prior to the meeting and are available online at rld.nm.gov/pharmacy-board-information/pharmacy-board-meetings. At this time, the details involved with these disciplinary matters are not available.
