Coach Ernie Griego, PE Teacher and Athletic Coordinator

Questa Independent Schools would like to introduce Mr. Ernie Griego. He started teaching the previous academic year and is the athletic coordinator this year.

QHS: Welcome! Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Griego: I am just beginning my professional career as a PE teacher. I recently completed my degree at Eastern New Mexico University. I teach grades pre-K through 6th grade at Alta Vista Elementary.

QHS: What made you want to teach here in Questa?

Griego: I have been coaching youth sports in Questa for about 10 years. I en-joy working with the students and it has been amazing to see the students grow from elementary students to high school graduates. I want to have a positive impact on the students and help prepare them for life after high school.

QHS: Tell us why you wanted to be an athletic coordinator.

Griego: In my 10 years coaching, I have seen that there are great students and great athletes. I want to be able to help those student-athletes grow aca-demically and within sports. As athletic coordinator, I get to work with the students and coaches to develop the sports programs at the Questa Schools.

QHS: It means the most to me when the parents of my students…

Griego: It means the most to me when any of my student’s parents tell me that their child comes home and tells them what we did in PE that day. It means they are enjoying the class and remembering what we did in class.

QHS: It means the most to me whenmy students….

Griego: It means the most to me when my students or athletes, past and present, know that they can come and talk to me wherever and whenever they see me, whether that is at school, at a game, or when they see me in the community.
