Mark your calendars! Questa is set to host an exciting, family-friendly celebration, “Kick it in Questa 2025,” on Saturday and Sunday, August 23 and 24, at the Questa Molycorp Field. This high-energy, two-day event promises a weekend packed with a fun, friendly kickball competition, and a vibrant showcase of local food and vendors. Residents of Questa, Cerro, Red River, Amalia, Costilla, and beyond are invited to join in the activities.
The event is the brainchild of Matthew Rael, who just completed his junior year at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. Rael, who graduated from Questa High School in 2022, aims to create a positive experience for anyone who wants to participate, whether as a vendor, sponsor, or in the featured kickball matches. “I had a great time participating in family events like the Questa Fiestas when I was a kid growing up in Questa and I want to provide that experience for families now,” says Rael.
“My 2025 spring semester really is what sparked this event,” says Rael. “I was encouraged by my professor to do a class project like this in my home community after I sustained an injury that inhibited me from completing some of my coursework. So, after working with my professor we came up with this class project—which has turned into more than just that.”
For the 20-year old, the task is huge, but Rael is not shying away from the challenge. Gathering sponsors, marketing the event, and applying for grants to make it happen is all part of the project, but is also a way for Rael to give back to his community.
Rael mentioned that the planning for the two-day event is well under way, and there are hopes for its becoming an annual event that families can look forward to.
Highlights of the two-day include:
Community Kickball Tournament: Get your teams ready! A co-ed kickball tournament will be held with divisions for youth (ages 12-17), adults (18+), and family/mixed teams. Games are scheduled throughout both days, leading to exciting finals. Early registration for teams is highly encouraged and will close on July 28, 2025.
Vibrant Kids’ Zone: Little ones will have a blast in a dedicated Kids’ Zone featuring bounce houses, creative face painting, and engaging craft stations.
Local Flavors & Vendors: Indulge in a wide variety of delicious food, snacks, and beverages from local vendors. Explore unique finds and support local talent at numerous craft stalls and community booths showcasing area nonprofits and artisans. Designated picnic areas will be available for families to relax and enjoy.
Live Music & Nightly Entertainment: The air will be filled with fantastic music throughout the two days. On Saturday, August 23, enjoy a lively professional band performance from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday, August 24 will feature local artists or a community band from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at which time the event will conclude. There will also be opportunities for local community performances.
Event Schedule Snapshot:
Saturday, August 23: The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with event opening and registration. The opening ceremony is at 9 a.m., followed by kickball games, ongoing kids’ activities, and vendor stalls, which will open at noon. The evening culminates with a live music performance from 7 to 11 p.m.

“Kick it in Questa 2025” promises to be a summer highlight, fostering connections, celebrating local heritage, and providing memorable experiences for all ages. “I invite everyone to come out, participate, and enjoy a weekend of community pride,” says Rael with enthusiasm.
