Jackson’s Feed Store Comes To Questa

A new feed store is opening its doors in Questa, bringing livestock supplies closer to local ranchers while reviving a tradition that once served the community decades ago.

Jackson Feed and Livestock, owned by Eugene Jackson of Jaroso, Colo., has opened in a building adjacent to the home of Questa Mayor John Ortega. The new business came into being after Jackson noticed increased demand from Questa-area customers at his Jaroso location and decided to “take a leap of faith” by opening a store in our village.

“I’m happy that Jackson Feed and Livestock will be opening in Questa,” Mayor Ortega said in a statement. “In the ’70s and ’80s my Grandpa Max Ortega Sr. had a granero (feed store) in Questa next to the house I purchased and now live in. About two months ago I saw that Eugene Jackson was looking for a space and I thought it was a perfect fit.”

Mayor Ortega said he met with Jackson about renting the building, and the arrangement worked for both parties. Ortega says Jackson went through the appropriate measures to obtain a business permit for this new endeavor.
“In full transparency, this business will be in the building adjacent to my residence,” Ortega said. “Eugene has also obtained a business license and will be paying Questa GRT [gross receipts tax]. I am really happy and excited to see this business open and to see my Grandpa Max’s original feed store running again through Jackson Feed and Livestock.”

Jackson Feed and Livestock will be open from Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Patrons can park directly in front of the store, located at 2523 State Hwy 522 in Questa.
Jackson says he looks forward to becoming a part of the Questa business community and continuing the long-standing tradition of local agricultural service.
