The Village of Questa’s new mayor and councilor were sworn in during an evening ceremony at the Village’s administrative offices on Friday, April 1.
John Ortega took the oath of office as mayor and Jason Gonzalez was sworn in as a new councilor. There were 72 people in attendance including several elected officials.
“I am very proud to be sworn in as Questa’s new mayor,” said John Ortega. “I look forward to serving all the citizens of Questa.”
Earlier that day Louise Gallegos was sworn into her fourth term as a councilor.
Ortega replaces Mark Gallegos who served as Questa’s mayor for the past eight years. Jason Gonzalez replaces Charlie Gonzales whom he defeated in March’s municipal election.
After the swearing in ceremony, the new council held its first meeting, during which Katrina Gonzales was appointed to the vacant council seat created by Ortega’s election as mayor. Mrs. Gonzales will serve the final two years of Ortega’s councilor seat. She was born in Taos County and, after some time out of state, is excited to serve the community of Questa as a political leader.
The Village of Questa Council during the meeting on April 12 discussed and unanimously approved the rotation for the position of Mayor Pro-tem, an extension to the Cabresto water line project, as well as the mayor’s intention to update the Village of Questa’s zoning regulations.
The Village of Questa Council meetings for May will be held on Tuesday (5/10 and 5/24) at 6:00 pm at the Questa Village Council Chamber: 2500 Old State Rd. 3, Questa, NM. For more information, contact the village offices at (575)586-0694.
