NM Game & Fish Seeks Public Input

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has released its draft 2025 State Wildlife Action Plan and is seeking public input through June 9.

The plan, updated every 10 years, outlines strategies to conserve species facing the greatest risks across the state. The draft includes expanded information on species of greatest conservation need, updated threats—including those linked to climate change—and new conservation practices.

Officials began revising the plan in May 2023. Public presentations were held at State Game Commission meetings in August 2023 and August 2024. Notable additions to the draft include a climate change vulnerability analysis for 295 vertebrate species, the inclusion of pollinating insects, and the identification of Riparian Conservation Opportunity Areas to target conservation efforts along waterways.

The plan also updates habitat descriptions and provides revised maps of Conservation Opportunity Areas.
The draft is available by visiting https://tinyurl.com/2etbu4tz. Public comments can be submitted by email to dgf-SWAP@dgf.nm.gov.
