OBITUARY: Carmelita Maria Lucero

Carmelita Maria Lucero of Amalia, age 95, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family July 14, 2022. Born in Amalia May 19, 1927, to Juan Benito and Raquel Trujillo, she was raised by her grandparents, Genaro and Andrea Gonzales, in Amalia.


Carmelita was preceded in death by grandparents, parents, her husband, four sisters, three brothers, one grandson and one granddaughter.


She is survived by brothers, Genaro Trujillo and Donald Trujillo; her children, Evelyn Trujillo (John), Estella Romero (Gasper), Steve Lucero (Dolores), Luisa Lucero, Leroy Lucero (Sally-deceased), Bernice Lucero, Wilfred Lucero (Theresa), Linda Lucero (Carnell), Elizabeth Lucero, Maria Lucero (Gabe); 20 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren.


Carmelita was a devoted Catholic, dedicated to praying for others, she loved caring for her garden, getting dressed up to go dancing and she always had fresh homemade tortillas and a hot meal for anyone that came to visit. Her prayers will be missed.


Services are pending at this time and will be posted as soon as they become available. The family of Carmelita Maria Lucero has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.
