Casilda (Casey) Lovato, a resident of Costilla NM, passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, 2026. She was born on July 26, 1934 to José and Antonia Arellano. She precedes her parents, husband Demetro Lovato, brother Eloy Arellano and sister Celia Santistavan.
She leaves behind her daughter Eyda (Randy), sons Lawrence (Veronica), Lonnie (Denise), Richard (Rhonda) and Randy (Rebecca). Nana also leaves 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Sisters-in-law Prescilla Rodriquez, Lillian Arellano and Geraldine Sotello, Brother-in-law Jimmy Lovato and numerous nephews and nieces.
Casilda was a faithful servant for Our Lord by being an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Guadalupana’s, Society of Mt Carmel and the Friendship Circle. For 30 years she participated in the pilgrimage walks to the Santuario de Chimayo as her dedication to our Lady of Guadalupe.
She worked as a cook at the Costilla Elementary School for a few years and later transferred to the Questa High School Cafeteria where she retired a few years later.
Casilda was always cooking, no one could leave her house without having something to eat. Her mission in life was to serve others.
A Rosary was recited on Wed. Feb. 11, 2026 at 7p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thurs. Feb. 12, 2026 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Costilla with a burial that followed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
