Cruz Chavez age 74, a resident of La Cordillera, passed away May 17, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his son Cruz Chavez, II; grandson Andres Chavez; parents George & Manuelita Chavez; mother and father-in-law Mercedes & Hernando Jaramillo; sister Loretta DeHerrera; nephews George Salazar, Brad Jaramillo and Nikolas Martinez; nieces Antonia Mares and Fran Chavez; brothers-in-law Lawrence Jaramillo, Paul Martinez, Orlando Salazar and Richard Valdez.
Cruz proudly served his country in the United States Army and New Mexico National Guard, later he was employed by and retired from the Taos Municipal Schools. He was an honorable man with strong family values. Cruz was a Dallas Cowboy’s fan and a dedicated Taos Tiger fan.
He is survived by his wife Elma Chavez; son Hernando Chavez (Jacquelyn); daughter-in-law Renee Yepez; grandchildren, Cruz M. Chavez (Suzie), Marcus Chavez (Audrea), Isaiah Chavez, Mateo Chavez (Ruth), Alexis Chavez, Augustine Chavez, Ariana Medina, Ava Chavez, Leyah Chavez, Braelyn Quintana, Isaiah Quintana and Ezekiel Chavez; great-grandchildren, Marikah Chavez, Sienna Chavez, Gianna Chavez, Jacob Chavez and Easton Chavez; siblings Cecilia Valdez, Sylvia Martinez, Lupe Anaya (Mike), Sarah Salazar, Chris Chavez (Mary Lou), Luca Chavez, Carmella Chavez Villafranca and Bettina Pacheco (Manuel); in-laws Marilyn Jaramillo, Evangeline Jaramillo, Sandra Jaramillo Bowles (Ben), Bob Jaramillo (Martha), Bernie Jaramillo (Geri), Edwin Jaramillo (Arla), Vincent Jaramillo (Debbie) and many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 6pm at San Francisco de Asís Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 10am at San Francisco de Asís Catholic church with burial to follow at Los Alamitos Cemetery in Los Cordovas.
