OBITUARY: Prexedes Sandoval

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Prexedes Sandoval. She gained her angel wings on May 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Prexedes was welcomed into the world on November 19, 1940, the beloved daughter of Antonio Martinez and Emma Cisneros Martinez. Prexedes was a very loving and caring person with a beautiful smile that would light up any room she entered. As a young lady she learned the value of hard work, dedication and love for family that she carried on throughout her life up to the very last day. Prexedes graduated from Antonito High School. After graduation she met the love of her life Abelino Sandoval and the two became one and started their family.


The two were blessed with 5 children, 3 daughters and 2 sons. Prexedes enjoyed working, in her free time she loved gambling, going to bingo, traveling, shopping and making tortillas for her family and friends. Her grandkids held a very special place in her heart and the time she was able to spend with them brighten her day. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. We will forever be grateful and cherish the memories and love she left with us while she was here.


Prexedes will live on through her children; Dora Duran of Antonito, CO, Valerie Romero of Antonito, CO, Cindy (Paul) Clark of Manassa, CO, and Andrew (Monica) Sandoval of Marysville, WA. As well as 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren 2 sisters; Jamie Montoya, Maryann (Alfirio) Sandoval, one brother Chris (Katy) Martinez. She is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.


Prexedes was preceded in death by her parents Antonio & Emma Martinez, one son Timmy Sandoval, one sister, and four brothers. A Rosary was held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Romero Valley Funeral Home in Alamosa. The Mass of Resurrection was held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Our Lady of Gudalupe Catholic Church in Conejos, CO. Interment followed at the La Jara Cemetery.


Rosary was recited on Thursday March 14, 2024 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Costilla, followed by the Mass of Christian burial. The burial will follow at the Garcia Cemetery in Garcia Colorado and a meal will follow at the Parish Hall after the services.
