The Questa Economic Development Fund is working with the Questa Independent School District, and other community partners, to hire a high school welding teacher for the new school year.
The welding lab at Questa High School is fully equipped with all of the needed welding supplies. Los Alamos National Laboratories donated thousands of dollars’ worth of welding equipment as they need welders and have immediate openings. Upon completion of the QHS welding class, students will be certified welders ready for entry level positions where they will continue to learn welding skills and continue to earn progressively increasing employment wages.
The welding teacher will provide classroom and workshop instructions in welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and FCAW), mild steel welding, fabrication, safety, blueprint reading and layout. Requirements include a minimum of three years proven welding experience. AWS certification using (SMAW). Five (5) years of experience in Welding Technology. Must have been certified as a multi process, multi-material welder under American Welding Society Certification.
A strong school district is critical to a strong economy and a reflection of a strong community.
QEDF, Chevron, and the LOR Foundation of Taos together funded the grant for $30,000 to launch this pilot Welding Program at Questa High School, other community partners include LANL and the University of New Mexico –Taos.
