New Mexico Treasurer-Elect Laura M. Montoya made the notable announcement on Dec.14 that Malaquias “JR” Rael III, of Questa has been appointed to serve the State of New Mexico as Deputy State Treasurer.
“JR is a hard-working public servant that brings a wealth of hands-on government experience and innovation that the people of New Mexico deserve in a Deputy Treasurer,” stated Treasurer-Elect Montoya. “JR has a proven track record of delivering for our state and I am thrilled to have him on my team.”
Rael currently serves as the Chief Administrative Officer for the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General managing day-to-day operations, fiscal, risk and audit management, operational implementation, and community awareness. Rael also manages policy priorities, legislative mandates, and develops programming to align with complex litigation outcomes. Rael earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of New Mexico and is from the Village of Questa in northern New Mexico. He is the son of Malaquias and Donette Rael.
