A new alterations and design studio is bringing custom clothing, sustainable style, and decades of international experience to the heart of Questa.
Sew Artful Alterations and Fine Stitchery, located at 2329 NM 522 just south of Yoga Sala, offers original clothing design, upcycled vintage and second-hand garments, special occasion alterations, and basic mending—from wedding gowns to broken zippers.
Behind the sewing machine is Tatyana de Pavloff, an experienced costume designer who has worked with theaters and entertainment companies across Moscow, the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado, and New Orleans. Her background includes costume design, makeup, and backstage work for a variety of stage productions.
“I can customize garments to reflect your unique style and fit,” she said. “Because no matter your size, you look your best in clothes that actually fit.”
In addition to fashion and fit, sustainability is at the core of Sew Artful’s mission. The shop promotes “slow fashion” through services like garment mending, upcycling, and repurposing—encouraging customers to value what already exists and reduce textile waste.
“We are responsible for creating the change we want to see in the world,” the owner said. “By altering and redesigning clothes instead of throwing them away, we can take real steps toward a healthier planet—and look amazing doing it.”
The business will host an open house on Saturday, June 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. featuring a raffle with a grand prize of a $100 Sew Artful gift certificate. Throughout June, customers can receive 15 percent off all orders and 20 percent off gift certificates.
The owner said opening the studio in Questa felt like a natural step, inspired by the town’s strong sense of community.
“Out of all the places I’ve lived around the world, I feel the most at home here,” she said. “This village has a special vibe, and I’ve felt so supported while launching this business.”
Appointments will be available immediately, with walk-in hours to be announced soon. For more information or to book a fitting, call (575) 737-8187.
