Ladycats Run for the State Title
With a 20-6 regular season record, and an 8-2 record in district play, the Ladycats claimed the #2 seed in the district tournament. The Ladycats were seeded 8th in the first round of the state playoff tournament and will take on Laguna Acoma on March 7 at the Questa Mini Pit at 6 p.m.

Ending the regular season, junior Alyse Lovato has had a season to remember. This year she scored her 1,000th point in her high school career. Usually that takes all four years to accomplish, but she has done this in her first three years—she is on pace for 1,500 points in her storied Questa career. Leading the Ladycats in scoring this year are the Big 3; Alyse Lovato with a 13.2 game, Kamryn Cardenas with 8.8, and Aliyah Santistevan with 8.5. It’s a common theme in all four major stat categories this year with the Big 3 leading in all major stats: rebounds, Alyse Lovato 7.0, Kamryn Cardenas 5.1, and Aliyah Santistevan 4.7; assists, Kamryn Cardenas 4.4, Alyse Lovato 2.1, and Aliyah Santistevan 1.7; steals, Alyse Lovato 4.8, Kamryn Cardenas 3.3, and Aliyah Santistevan 2.3. All the other players, starting or bench, have contributed to the play of these great stats, as amazing regular season Ladycats.
This year Questa Del Rio News has started the 5 Points Northern Star of the Month and as sports reporter, I will be selecting five athletes who have performed at a high All-Star level for the past month. For the month of February, the five Ladycat Northern Stars are Kamryn Cardenas, Alyse Lovato, Aliyah Santistevan, Alexis Brown, and Booboo Gonzales. These athletes have led the Ladycats to a 5-1 record in the month of February and have dominated the district, giving them a #2 seed, and a #7 ranking in the 2A NM Coaches Poll.
Alyse Lovato, Kamryn Cardenas, and Aliyah Santistevan have received District 5 AA All-District honors.
