The Talpa Community Market has begun their second year of providing a community-focused market for the south side of Taos on Fridays. Like the Questa Farmers Market, the Arroyo Hondo Farmers Market, and the Taos Farmers Market, the need and want for seasonal fresh fruits and veggies is increasing and community members have responded. More and more customers want to support their local growers and ranchers to ensure our agricultural lifeways continue throughout Taos County. This is made possible when space and resources are made available to all types of growers, farmers and ranchers, and craftspeople.
The Talpa Community Market invites vendors from across the county to join us on Fridays. All types of experience are welcome, with various produce and items including—but not limited to—fruit, vegetables, plants, shrubs, and handmade crafts, jewelry, homemade foods, and pastries. You can enjoy a breakfast tamale from Ofelia, a prune pie or biscochitos from Manuelita, cool down with a fresh fruit paleta from Carmen, and find a fruit tree from Clay or fresh cut bouquets from Casey. It’s a perfect spot to find unique gifts ranging from hand-carved wood figurines, quilts, oven mitts, soaps, pillows, and more.
The market aims to welcome first-time growers or vendors who have excess produce or product, and so far, this approach has encouraged many new neighbors who appreciate the ease and affordability of being a first-time vendor. Vendors arrive at 7:30 am to set up (first-come first-serve), with same-day registration, all for an affordable table space of $10. If you need a table, you can rent one.
With generous funding from the LOR Foundation, the Talpa Community Center is hosting the weekly Friday Market from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at 4 Archuleta Road, Ranchos de Taos. Neighbors are welcome to begin their weekend with a festive and friendly atmosphere to find special treats and goodies. Children have a playground to pass the time and meet new friends, parents and grandparents get to catch up, and everyone enjoys the live performances, from musicians to mime acts!
They’re a new market, still small and cozy, and are seeking more neighbors to join as vendors and performers. Prices are affordable to ensure vendors earn as much as possible, and customers can make their money stretch, all by hosting a space where we can all be together. They’re truly a small market with a big heart! Go see for yourself this Friday, and every Friday until mid-October.
