The Taos County Historical Society (TCHS) is pleased to announce a special guest lecture, “History of Pot Creek — Early People of Taos,” featuring Dr. John Ubelaker. The presentation will take place Saturday, Mar. 7, at 2 p.m. in the Kit Carson Electric Cooperative board room, located at 118 Cruz Alta Road in Taos.
Dr. Ubelaker, a professor emeritus and former director of SMU-in-Taos, will explore the archaeological and cultural significance of the Pot Creek site and its role in the history of the early inhabitants of the Taos Valley.
Dr. Ubelaker brings a distinguished academic background to the society. Originally from northeast Kansas, he earned his undergraduate degree in biology and a Master of Science in parasitology from the University of Kansas. He later received his doctorate from Colorado State University and completed postdoctoral studies at Emory University and Vanderbilt University. During his tenure at Southern Methodist University, he served as chair of the Department of Biology and spent 16 years directing the SMU-in-Taos Fort Burgwin campus.
The lecture is free for TCHS members, with a requested $5 donation from the general public. In compliance with Town of Taos Fire Department regulations, admission is limited to a maximum capacity of 80 guests on a first-come, first-served basis.
