Funds from the Questa Creative Council will again support local musicians at the Questa Farmers Market for the 2022 season. Here is the lineup for June. Come out and support them!
- June 5: Michael Rael
- June 12: Chris and Rodney Arellano
- June 19: Nick Hans
- June 26: Mario Trujillo
The new P3 project was off to a great start. We met in the Youth Center next to the library on May 14 and 21. Betsy Irwin introduced the ins and outs of the roots of poetic form and the many kinds of structures poetry can take. The group moved from identifying a meaningful theme, to putting that into words, and the words into rhythm, rhyme, or free-verse, with many helpful fun facts along the way. Look for poetry performances with youth around town and at the Questa Farmers Market, as the summer continues!

Meet the new artists at the 7th Annual QSAT, August 13-14! Our annual Questa Studio Arts Tour (QSAT) is always changing and growing. With up to 50 artists at 17 different stops, the 2022 tour will not only offer new work by previously participating artists, but also the excitement of showcasing new artists joining our event this year. There will be at least one new artist at almost every hub!
Starting in Questa at Cosas Hermosas, four artists will be presenting their artworks. Our new artist at this location is Karen Ahlgren, who works in watercolor and produces beautiful colorful paintings of our local wildlife. At our next stop, ArtQuesta will be hosting six artists, with a new pastel artist, Scotty Mitchell. Scotty’s work focuses on local landscapes. Further north into Questa you will find the stained-glass studio of Nick Ortega. New to Nick’s studio will be woodworking by Larry Cisneros.
At Rael’s Market, new artists joining the group will be santero artist Ken Gallegos, woodworker Armando Vigil, and fun crafts by Valerie Vigil. Up Cabresto Road, past the church, will be Graffiti-esque painter John Jeffroy Brunson.
Around the corner, down Highway 38 at Jay’s Unique Thrift Store, will be antler painter Blayne Rogers. A little east toward the post office you’ll find Mike and Peggy’s place, with six artists. New to the group is painter Monique Parker, who will be showing her beautiful India-inspired works. The final stop in Questa proper is at the Questa Public Library, with four artists. Here, new plein air painter Mary Jo Kelly will be joining the mix.
Further north of Questa, you will find artists in the community of El Rito/Latir. Stop by Virsylvia Farms for a range of textiles, a petting zoo, and two other guest artists, including new textile artist Jane Stuehling. At Maria Mikhalas’ studio in El Rito, there will be five artists, with new artist Steve Racicot, who works in bronze.
Ellen Wood will be opening her studio and will show her art, as well as new landscape artist Harper Wood. Takoja Institute will feature three artists, including two new painters: Shera Maher, who paints lively, colorful work and Mario Sauceda, whose paintings feel absolutely cosmic.
Finally, don’t miss Ute A.I.R. in Sunshine Valley, hosting six artists, including painter Jesse Hook, who works in landscape, and mythological work by artist Mark Lewis Wagner.
Artists new and old invite you to attend the 7th Annual Questa Studio Art Tour, August 13 and 14. For information on the complete lineup of artists, studios, and hubs, visit our Questa Studio Art Tour website at www.northernnewmexicoartists.com.
The tour is a project of the Questa Creative Council. This project is funded and supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
